2) The next meeting of the Washington County Fairground Advisory Committee (FAC) will be held on Tuesday, June 26th, 2012, at 11:30-1:30 PM in the Cloverleaf Building at the Washington County Fair Complex, Hillsboro, OR (see link for meeting info here) .
The FAC is a relatively new County entity (originally appointed/seated in Sept. 2010) which is the by-product of the Board of Commissioners (BOC) and the last Fair Board, which mutually agreed to a Memo of Understanding (MOU), which now allows the FAC to circumvent the State mandated legal authority of the Fair Board and make recommendations directly to the BOC regarding the Fair Complex's capital improvements, building maintenance and the Fair Complex's "Master Plan" built-out. This recent transfer of legal authority of the oversight of the development and management of the Fair Complex from the Fair Board to other County Departments and the FAC, which were previously the "exclusive management" responsibility of the Fair Board, as per ORS 565.210, is of great concern to many of those who value this treasured public property for use by current and future generations of Washington County citizens. The FAC committee will now attempt to recommend to the BOC how WE "build-out" OUR Washington County Fair Complex towards the Fair Complex's "Master Plan", which was approved by the BOC and their Fairgrounds Task Force which the BOC had assembled to address that same purpose back in 2007-2008.
Please note that there is an opportunity at each FAC meeting to address your public comment regarding the Fair Complex "Master Plan", during the public comment period at the end of each FAC meeting!
3) The Washington County Board of Commissioners (BOC) recently re-appointed all four (4 ea.) members of the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee (FAC) whose terms were expiring on 12/31/2011 at the 11/22/11 BOC meeting. There was only one new applicant submitted for the four (4) open FAC positions. The terms of these four (4) re-appointed FAC members will run for two (2) years, expiring again 12/31/14.
The Fair Advisory Committee's current members are as follows:
- Andy Duyck (Ex-officio position) - Current BOC Chairman (2 year term - Expires 12/31/12)
- Larry Pederson (FAC Chairman) - Property/Land Developer (2 year term - Expires 12/31/12)
- Jerry Willey - Mayor of City of Hillsboro (2 year term - Expires 12/31/12)
- Don McCoun (Ex-officio position) - Current Fair Board President (No term - position rotates)

5) The "Washington County Fair History Book" is still in the works with the hope that it will be published later THIS YEAR 2012 ! The Boosters have been present at various Farmers Markets throughout Washington County last Summer, spreading the word about the history book and the Annual Fair. Inez Griffels and Judy Palumbo have been dutifully working on crafting the Fair History Book and we will start marketing the Fair History Book again in mid-2012, presenting the book on local Portland media sources as well.
